Blue-Light Absorber





Blue-Light Absorber is a light-yellow-powdered product which is widely used in various plastics to meet the Blue-Light blocking demand, especially in 3C(Computer, Communication and Consumer Electronic) industry. Blue-Light Absorbers can absorb the short wavelength light (or called High Energy Visible, HEV light) in the visible light spectrum. Since the absorption wavelength is around 380 nm-430 nm for these chemicals, sometimes it is called “blue blocker".


Why do we block Blue-Light?


In the past, only sunlight contains high intensity HEV light. Nowadays, people spend more and more time using 3C devices, and their LED (Light-Emitting Diode) screen emits HEV light. This light locates at blue side in the visible spectrum, so called “blue light”. The exposure to blue light may contribute to irreversible changes in the retina. Blue light can penetrate cornea and most of lens to reach retina, causing diminution of vision and increasing risk of macular degeneration. More and more scientists agree that long-time exposure to blue light is harmful to the human body. Therefore, the application of blue-light absorbers in different types of 3C products is significant.

Suggested dosage to achieve good Blue-Light Shield:  

- Film thickness below 50 μm > 2~5%

- Film thickness above 250 μm > 0.2~0.5%

- Plate thickness at around 1.5~2.0 mm > 0.3~0.5%
